IERE is partnering with Marine View Ventures, the economic arm of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians to build the EPI-Center, a hub for sustainability in the Pacific Northwest. Marine View Ventures will build, own and operate the building and IERE will operate programs out of the building.
The building will be located on Tribal Trust Land in Tacoma Washington. It will be a net-zero energy building and use rainwater as its water source. IERE will perform Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of the building and building components.
The building will be a living laboratory. During operation of the building, we will
-
Track and report on building and component performance in use
-
Perform retrospective LCAs of the components
-
Support life cycle based ecolabels through the National Product Category Rule Repository and the Earthsure program.
-
Provide a space for green construction and sustainability education
Many organizations have helped in these early stages for planning this building. We could not have gotten this far without them.
