Vashon Island - Land Use
Maps of land-use on Vashon-Maury Island that include the areas on the island that are legally protected. The maps (click here) also include information about the ecosystem and its state of preservation, or lack thereof.
Vashon Island Lead and Arsenic
Elevated concentrations of lead, arsenic, and cadmium have been found on Vashon Island, Maury Island, and the surrounding mainland. The source appears to have been the Asarco smelter in Ruston (near Tacoma). More information on this website can be found here.
